First Blog Post

Hi, my name is Ariel Jarrard. I am going to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and I hope to get my Associates in Art. I want to be an interior designer in the future. I moved here from Michigan in 2022 to go to school. I live with my significant other and our two cats, Domino and Lilo. My hobbies are anything in nature or outdoors, I love to paint or sketch, I love getting to go visit my family in Michigan, and I enjoy going on any adventures or travel when I get the opportunity. I work two jobs, one at a school in town as a teacher assistant and the other as a bartender at The Pub on campus. I'm really looking forward to this art class and hope to learn something new and improve my art skills.

I have loved art since I was younger. My dad has his own painting business and I have helped him on many projects during the summers. In my own free time I like to paint or sketch. I took a couple ceramic classes in high school and those were my favorite! I own some art that I have collected at the farmers market or art galleries in Denali National Park, I prefer pieces of work that are created by locals or people from my area. I have not heard of First Fridays but I would be willing to try anything new and related to art. I do enjoy art museums. Every time I travel I look to see if there is an art museum in town to go look at.

This is a video of Bob Ross. He's one of my favorites to watch because when I was younger, my dad and I would sit and paint one of his pieces of art for fun!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYuH4Ilqdhs

  1. Kudos! Following a Bob Ross tutorial. My God daughter and I wanted to do one, but the wow! The expense of all the materials was prohibitive. We found some less expensive tutorials to follow. Like you, I have lots of art by folks I know. I'm headed to First Friday tonight. My friend, Kess is over at Wells St. Station. The Bear Gallery at Pioneer Park is always good, and the Folk School is doing a 1 Tree exhibit at Pioneer Park as well.

  2. I love Bob Ross! One of my AP teachers used to put his videos on during exam season to calm us all down. I like ceramics too, I want to take a class next semester.
